Amaretto Sour with Bourbon

Zach Wilks is a premiere mixologist who is taking beverage making back to its roots, Wilks strives to create unique classic cocktails. As owner of Wilks and Wilson Tonic Syrup, he created his own original mixers to go with specialty cocktails and take his, and other bartenders drinks to the next level. His own palate inspired this amaretto sour, so you know it has been refined to perfection.

“I always felt funny ordering an amaretto sour,” explained Wilks. There is a simple solution that this elite mixologist came up with: make one yourself, and make it better. A spin off of the traditional amaretto sour, this drink is a mixture of amaretto, bourbon and a sweet and sour mix, which Wilks prepared himself by combining fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice, as well as some sugar to take the edge off. This drink is a perfect accompaniment to a relaxing evening.


Amaretto Sour with Bourbon

1-ounce amaretto
1-ounce bourbon
1 ounce sweet and sour mix (1 lemon, 1 lime and sugar)
2 cups ice
1 orange wedge


1. Prepare two glasses by filling with ice.
2. Using a jigger, shot glass, or counts, measure and pour one "healthy" ounce of each liquid into a glass with ice. Use a prepared sweet and sour mix or create one yourself by combining a 1/2 ounce of lemon juice, 1/2 ounce of lime juice and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
3. Using a speed cup, shake the drink vigorously for 5-10 seconds.
4. Strain the drink over the second cup. If you do not have a speed cup, pour the drink and ice from one cup, to another. This will sufficiently mix all the ingredients together.
5. Garnish with an orange wedge and enjoy.
